Who We Are: We're a diverse group of people who love growing flowers, veggies and houseplants. We welcome everyone from garden newbies to experts. We enjoy meeting other green (or not-so-green) thumbs. Come along to ask your questions, join our community projects, and learn from the pro's.

History: The Newcastle Horticultural Society was formed in 1914 as a member of the Ontario Horticultural Association (now Garden Ontario). The first president was Dr. J. Butler, whose property on King Avenue (near the current library and church) hosted garden parties and flower shows.

Emblem: The Smooth Wild Rose (Rosa blanda) is our emblem. The original logo was hand drawn. It was updated in 2024 when we adopted the name Newcastle Gardening Club. Rosa blanda is common throughout southern Ontario. Almost thornless, it has open pink flowers, and blooms in late May and June.
